Help newborns survive!

In children born before the 32nd year of gestation, immaturity of the cerebral vessels often leads to intra-ventricular haemorrhages (IVH): this occurs in 60-90% of cases. During third- or fourth-stage haemorrhages, the circulation of the spinal cord is disrupted, leading to enlargement of the cerebral plannies and hydrocephalus. The important IVH and post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus are often the cause of death in preterm infants.

In order to minimise the effects of haemorrhage (to clean the cerebral cords from blood and clots), the Rudniew Clinical Centre for Mother and Child has needed a ventriculoscope device, The device will help to prevent death and serious consequences of SCENAR (i.e. neurological disorders) in hundreds and thousands of children in our region.

Pursuant to the cooperation agreement No. 21 between Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace and the Charity Aid Operator POMOGAEM CF from 31.08.2020 and additional agreement No. 21. 185 of 31.08.2020, the website of Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace - dobro.ua published the project "Help little children to survive" in order to attract donations for the purchase of medical equipment.

On 20.05.2021 we hoped for a donor aid and closed the fund. However the cost of equipment has significantly increased after the money was received, therefore on 29.09.2021 we again appealed to our partners Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace to re-open the fund and increase budget of the project.

On 23.12.2021 the project was funded by the Health fund in the amount of 90 000, 00 UAH (ninety thousand UAH, 00 kopiyk). Overall, thanks to the platform dobro. ua, 192,556, 12 UAH (one hundred deven'yanosti two thousand and one hundred and fifty six UAH, 12 kopiyok) was collected and transferred to the account of the Charity Fund "Pomogaem" for the purchase of medical equipment. 

We were able to receive the ventriculoscope from Mothers and Children Center of Rudnev on 15.04.2022 after technical delay of payment and the outbreak of war. The ventriculoscope will now be used for surgeries on preterm infants to prevent them from developing hydrocephalus.

Surgeon Yuriy Zinchenko said that by giving the device to the clinic, everyone became a bit of a doctor. After all, thanks to every donation the children will live.
