Help children cope with cancer

Children with oncohematological ailments are often chased by typical «cover» diseases such as: pneumonia, hepatitis, carditis. It's very simple to catch them for baby body during chemotherapy, when they loses immunity and become vulnerable to any infection. But the worst thing is that sometimes we can notice this infection only by ultrasound. But we don't have the ultrasound machine in our department.

The department of hematology in Khmelnytsky regional Children's Hospital is treating childrens with diagnosis as: Acute leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin. Each of this diseases are terrible, but treatable, this way for diagnosis and monitoring the tumor our department requires ultrasound machine to constant monitoring of tumor size. During treatment, we use chemotherapy.It kills malignant cells and all blood cells, and has a toxic effect on all children's delicate body. Children become vulnerable, because chemotherapy are completely destroy the immune system. Each child during treatment carries severe pneumonia, hepatitis, carditis, shocks, life threatening bleeding and hemorrhage. The doctors and all medical personnel at any moment ready to provide necessary medical care for these children, but the most important thing is for a doctor is exactly to know: what happened to the child? How to help to the child? Any error at this moment can be the last. As V.I. Vorobyov, prominent man, a great Moscow's hematologist, author of hematopoiesis theory says " Промажешь с диагнозом человек ответит жизню. " which means if doctor, will miss the right diagnosis - the human dies.

Very relevant in the department of hematology is the problem of diagnosis of severe disorders internal organs of children lying. In children during chemotherapy often formed
pleural and abdominal effusions, but we can't make radiography to patients who lying. However, these disorder, are easy diagnosed by ultrasonography. For example, interstitial pneumonia is't visible on x-ray. On the other hand using an ultrasound we will see a characteristic visual pattern like "barcode". Treatment of pneumonia in children with oncohematological has many features.

Malignant and benign changes in the lymph nodes reliably detecting by ultrasound and confirming histologically. Echocardiography is the standard in the treatment of anthracycline. It is important to monitor the status of a central venous catheter using ultrasound.

But the ultrasound is located at one building, while hematological department is located on the second floor of another. So difficult children are delivering on a stretcher, wearing masks - it's very uncomfortable,difficult and dangerous. Children with oncological diseases may also be located in the intensive care unit, where it is impossible to ultrasound diagnosis - Ultrasound simply is't there. Therefore, portable ultrasound system for hematology department is essential. This positive impact on early diagnosis, treatment and control of timely assistance.
