Let's help Lev not to feel different.
Lev was born a perfectly healthy boy and was no different from other children. In his preschool years, doctors had some questions about his neurology: he was diagnosed with a speech delay and simple motor tics. Fortunately for everyone, the baby “outgrew” these problems, and his life seemed to be getting better. Lev was an active and cheerful child, he went to kindergarten and started talking. But, unfortunately, at the age of 5, the cheerful and inquisitive boy became lethargic, lost weight, and began to feel constantly thirsty. This condition did not go away, but only worsened. The parents went to the pediatrician and had the boy's blood tested on a glucometer, as the symptoms were similar to diabetes. The glucose meter showed a blood glucose level of more than 20 mmol... this is considered a state a moment before coma.
Lev was hospitalized at the Children's Clinical Hospital. That's how his life changed completely. Already in the hospital, the whole family learned to live in a new way: to inject insulin, count doses, count food, pause before eating or, on the contrary, eat quickly because the sugar is falling. This has been the family's reality for four years now. It is good that medicine does not stand still, and an alternative to the glucometer has been invented. The sensor, which works for 14 days, continuously shows sugar and eliminates the need to prick the child's finger more than 10 times a day to find out the sugar level. Also, thanks to the government program, the child was given an insulin pump, which makes his life much easier, as it allows him to make fewer insulin injections with syringes.
Type 1 diabetes made Lev grow up earlier than his peers. But despite the diagnosis and some of the limitations that diabetes dictates, Lev continues to be a normal nine-year-old boy who goes to school, loves outdoor games, cycling, and outdoor activities.
His parents cannot afford to buy Lev sensors, which cost a lot of money. The family spends a lot of money on special food and all other necessary supplies for their child, so they need help with their son's treatment.
