Masha has been suffering from severe diabetes mellitus for almost 3 years. Constant changes in glucose levels caused complications in vision and kidney function. It is very important to use a sensor that automatically measures her glucose level every 5 minutes and gives an alarm in a critical situation. But it only works for 7 days and costs 2 260 UAH.

As Masha’s mom Anna said, in the fall of 2021, her daughter lost weight sharply, became irritable and sad. After two nights when Masha constantly asked to drink, her grandmother, who herself suffers from diabetes, recommended measuring the child’s blood glucose level. It turned out to be 13 mmol/l when the norm was up to 5.

The girl was hospitalized in the endocrinology department of the Dnipro hospital, where diabetes was confirmed.

What caused the malfunction of the pancreas is unknown. Perhaps it’s genetics (there are people with diabetes in the family), or maybe it’s COVID-19.

Masha graduated from first grade. She likes to study, but due to frequent bronchitis, she rarely goes to school. The girl also loves to dance and draw.

From the first days of her illness, Masha, on the doctor’s recommendation, has been using sensors. At first it was Libre from Freestyle, but due to an allergy to the materials of the device, she had to switch to the more expensive Guardian sensor. This sensor works for 7 days and allows you to maintain glucose levels, avoiding complications. In addition, it protects the child’s fingers from 15-20 punctures per day.

A year ago, Masha took part in the city program providing children with insulin pumps. This saved the child from painful insulin injections 5-7 times a day. But the pump requires Mini Med “Quick-Set” infusion sets, which cost 38,800 UAH for 10 months. Consumables need to be changed every three days.

The family asks for help to raise funds to provide Masha with Guardian sensors for 10 months and "Quick-Set" infusion kits for an insulin pump. Please support the girl
