When she was born, Eva wasn't breathing, but her heart was beating. For two weeks, doctors fought for her life in intensive care on a ventilator, and then she underwent a tracheostomy because she was unable to breathe on her own. She was discharged home at only three months old, but she was fed exclusively through a tube. Little Eva learned to eat on her own only at eight months of age.
At 9 months, doctors diagnosed Eva with Marshall-Smith syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that requires constant medical supervision and intensive rehabilitation, which radically changed the life of the entire family. Since then, Eva has been regularly attending physical therapy, massage, and osteopathy sessions, thanks to which she learned to hold her head up and sit independently within a year.
"Thanks to the classes at the rehabilitation center, Eva is diligently learning to walk independently, training and strengthening the muscles of her back, legs, and arms. She is working with a speech therapist on new sounds. Eva's family is sincerely grateful for the opportunity to rejoice in our daughter's new achievements," says the girl's mother.
Eva is now 4 years old, but she still has delays in her statokinetic, speech, and psychological development, she is not gaining weight well, and she cannot take care of herself independently. Treatment must continue, so we are asking everyone who cares to help Eva. Every hryvnia you donate is another step toward the child's health, development, and happy future.
