Help the homeless quarantine

The Community of the homeless needs your help in purchasing of food and disinfectants.The youngest resident of the Community “Our House” is a few weeks old. Apart of him there are 3 more children and 40 adults in the Community. Over 10 years of its existence, the Community has learned how to maintain itself. But today the homeless had to close social shops with second-hand clothes and there are no more orders for furniture repairing. At one moment, they went back to the beginning of their existence and now turn to everyone with a request to help them to survive this crisis.

Charitable Foundation “Caritas SDD UGCC” and the Community of mutual support “Our House” have been taking care about the homeless and addicted people in the region for more than 10 years. During this time with joint efforts we managed to repair building of the shelter of the homeless which, at present, hosts more than 40 people, opened a night-stay shelter in Drohobych town, started erection of the hospice for the homeless and organized weekly hot dinners for the homeless in the city center. We have always realized that we cannot count on sustained donor support. That is why we have worked out the ways of self-maintenance.

With the aim of self-maintenance, the Community opened two social shops where the homeless sell second hand clothes which was collected and repaired by their hands. These shops provide 4 working places and give some monetary support for the Community. Also, some men, the Community residents, have learned to build wooden fences and repair old furniture, and with this acivity have also raised funds for the Community. Today, all these activities have stopped and the homeless are left without basic means of living.

Taking into account the fact that there is a baby and three more children in the Community all the Community dwellers try to observe hygiene rules not to cause the spread of viruses. The question of hygiene has always been a difficult thing for the homeless. But now in conditions when there is lack of hygiene and disinfection means to keep clean becomes even harder task.

We turn to all people of good will with a request to help us to purchase food, detergents and disinfectants for the Community of the homeless. The purchased things will satisfy the basic needs of the community for a month. During that time the homeless will work out the ways how to overcome the economic crisis.
