Help me overcome the pain!

Cancer… It started 6 years ago. All these years have been a fight for the child’s life. Dania and a pair of crutches near him at the photo have been true friends for already two years. Dania has a prosthetic implant in his leg, which has been inserted there after the removal of a cancerous tumor. Unbearable pain in the leg… That is what Dania feels every moment. He does the dressing himself and has to go on crutches, hoping that someday he will return to sports and please his family with new victories, and will be able to play football again, like all boys. 

They were a usual family six years ago. The son – an excellent pupil, who pleased his parents with high grades and won prizes in judo competitions. The family was looking forward to seeing their second child. Half a year after his sister Mirochka was born, Dania started complaining of the pain in his leg. X-ray examination showed a new growth under the knee. The results of the medical examination were shocking – osteosarcoma of the left thigh bone with lung metastases.

Tumour and metastases removal, long-term chemotherapy caused the bone destruction and made it necessary to use a prosthetic implant. The first one, unfortunately, proved unsuitable, as the leg continued to grow and became longer. It resulted in the spinal curvature. The second prosthetic implant didn’t take for a long time and in May this year, the X-ray examination showed that a “growing” module inside it is out of order. It caused infectious contamination and a later fistula formation, which transformed into a hole, through which a prosthetic implant is visible.

Six-year long and not always successful treatment taught the family not to show their pain to the world. It taught them to smile through the tears… Ukrainian doctors after installing the last prosthesis already operated on the infected leg three times, but to no avail. Now the problem is only aggravated. Over the past month, the hole in the leg has tripled, and if this process is not stopped, the leg will have to be amputated. Domestic doctors suggest simply replacing the old prosthesis, and the inflammation cannot be cured.

Center for Corrective Surgery in Munich, where the guy's parents asked for advice, is a new chance to stop the pain of smiling and very strong young man around the clock. It is proposed to remove the old prosthesis, install a spessner (temporary prosthesis for the time of treatment of infectious inflammation), and later, in 3-6 months, to perform an operation to install a new reliable prosthesis. Munich doctors gave hope to correct mistakes of the previous treatment and restore the sick limb. However, the amount that is necessary for the treatment of Dania, unbearable for the family – 250 000 euros. By their strength they managed to collect 13 000 euros, on UBB we plan to raise another 300 000 UAH for a permanent prosthesis.
