Help Sonia get better

         Sofiyka from Kam'yanske has atypical autism and motor impairments. To identify the cause of her developmental delay, lack of speech and spontaneous muscle contractions (twitching), doctors have recommended that she undergo a comprehensive genetic screening as soon as possible.  
         In accordance with Cooperation Agreement No. 21 between the International Charitable Foundation ‘Ukrainian Charity Exchange’ and the charitable aid operator, the Charitable Foundation ‘POMAGAYEM’, dated 31 August 2020, and Supplementary Agreement No. 21. 298 of 4 February 2025, the project ‘Help Sonya Recover’ was posted on the website of the International Charitable Foundation ‘UBB’ – dobro.ua – with the aim of raising donations to cover the cost of treatment for Sofia Tarasenko. 
         The initial target amount was 200,878.00 UAH (two hundred thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight hryvnias, 00 kopecks). Once the full amount required to cover Sofia’s treatment had been raised on two fundraising platforms – the Ukrainian Charity Exchange and the Pomagayem Charitable Foundation – we contacted Vitalab laboratory (Dnipro) to request an updated quote. However, it turned out that the funds were insufficient due to a significant increase in the cost of the examination over the past year, so we requested a discount. As a result, the discounted cost of the examination was set at 214,766.00 UAH (two hundred and fourteen thousand seven hundred and sixty-six hryvnias, 00 kopecks).
         Therefore, in accordance with letter No. 128 dated 24 March 2026, we contacted our regular partners, the Charitable Organisation International Charitable Foundation ‘Ukrainian Charity Exchange’, requesting that the fundraising campaign be closed and the project amount on the UCE be reduced to the amount actually raised – 137,878.00 UAH  (one hundred and thirty-seven thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight hryvnias, 00 kopecks), and to transfer the funds to our bank account to cover the girl’s medical treatment.
         On 14 April this year, Sofiika finally underwent the long-awaited genetic testing at the Vitalab laboratory (Dnipro).
         Sofia is currently continuing to attend school, and for the summer her mum has enrolled her at another educational institution, where a special development and learning programme is planned. The family hopes that these sessions will yield positive results. If this is indeed the case, the girl will continue to attend this institution, as the most important thing is her progress and well-being.
         Recently, things have become difficult for Sofiika’s family. Due to sudden changes in the weather, the child suddenly fell ill. She is currently undergoing treatment and taking the necessary medication. There are already some signs of improvement: the number of uncontrolled movements of her arms and legs has decreased. But they have not lost hope and continue to fight for her well-being.
      The medical examination brought serious news — doctors have diagnosed Sofiika with grade 4 scoliosis. A consultation with an orthopaedic surgeon at the OKHMATDIT hospital is forthcoming, as the girl is scheduled to undergo surgery. The family is also eagerly awaiting the results of genetic testing, which will be available in two months’ time. 
      The Tarasenko family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported them during this difficult time. It is thanks to the kindness of caring people that they have managed to raise funds for these vital medical tests. Her mother, Iryna, writes:  “May all the kindness you show be returned to you a hundredfold!”
      At present, all the funds transferred from the Ukrainian Charity Exchange have been spent on the girl’s needs.
