Help breathe freely!

Diana has been ill since birth, every year she was hospitalized with pneumonia, but the cystic fibrosis was only diagnosed at the age of 4. Since then, she went to the hospital twice a year. Cystic fibrosis is a serious genetic disease, it is a hereditary gene mutation causing disfunction of glands and leading to irreversible processes in internal organs. Now her condition has worsened, her X-rays show "practically no lungs", they are completely clogged with sputum. It is very difficult for her to breathe. Fingers and nails have deformed because of a lack of oxygen, a serious cardiac pathology (pulmonary heart) appeared and now each disease recurrence is extremely dangerous.

The disease is deteriorated by bacterial complications, there is a large number of pathogens in the lungs, which are low sensitive to standard antibacterial treatment schemes. The most effective treatment of such lung infections, according to doctors’ opinion nowadays is Bramitob, it is highly active since it better penetrates into lung tissues. Diana needs to take three courses of this medicine per year; the total cost comprises UAH 189,000. For Diana's family this amount is simply unreal.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to completely cure cystic fibrosis so far. However, it is possible to ease its course, decrease symptoms, improve and prolong a person’s life in this way. 20 years ago children died very early of this disease but nowadays lifetime reaches 50(!) years provided that the therapy is correct. Diana is optimistic about her future. She dreams to study at the university, she is interested in art, painting, artists’ bios. Despite all difficulties she faces, she never complains that her situation is the worst, but says that other people have even more serious diseases then she. Diane supports everybody and feels empathy to others.
