Every mother dreams of hearing that first "Mommy," seeing a warm, conscious gaze, or playing simple games like "pat-a-cake." For the mother of two-year-old Makar, these simple joys remain a distant dream she fights for every single minute. Until nine months of age, Makar was a typically developing baby, but suddenly, the world around him became hostile and silent. A diagnosis of central nervous system damage turned the boy's life into a labyrinth of confusing sensations, where every sound or touch is perceived by his brain as a threat.
Thanks to your previous support, Makar has already completed part of his journey, and we have our first vital victories! After a rehabilitation course and sessions with an occupational therapist, the "ice has started to melt." Makar has become more attentive, and a spark of curiosity has appeared in his eyes. He can now engage himself in play for short periods, has become calmer, and his appetite and sleep have improved. Most importantly—he has started responding to his name more often! This small "I hear you" gives us immense hope that his brain can be taught to process reality. However, the road to a full life is still long. Despite these successes, Makar remains a prisoner of silence. He does not speak or understand spoken language; he lacks a pointing gesture and doesn't know how to play with toys or interact with peers. On the contrary, noise and other children frighten him to tears. Makar still lacks basic self-care skills: he cannot eat or dress himself and relies entirely on his mother’s help.
Makar is only two years age. This is the "golden age" when the nervous system is most plastic. If we don’t stop now, he has a chance to learn everything: from his first word to playing football with friends. The next vital rehabilitation courses are scheduled for the summer and fall. This is a chance to build on his progress and move further—toward understanding speech, making conscious gestures, and living without fear.
We are continuing our fundraising efforts, because ahead lies not only rehabilitation treatment but also daily support—without which these steps forward would be impossible. Makar needs special vitamins and hygiene products. For an ordinary family, this is an overwhelming burden, but together we have already proven that we can change his life.
The cost of rehabilitation is an overwhelming burden for an ordinary family. But for us, it is an opportunity to give a child a future. Makar isn't asking for much—he just wants to understand his mother and not be afraid of the world around him. Please, help Makar break out of this isolation. Your support today is a chance for a mother to hear her son’s voice tomorrow. Don’t let the silence win!
