The Centre for Paediatric Neurosurgery and Epilepsy Surgery, the largest in the western regions of Ukraine, which operates on the basis of the St. Nicholas Children's Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lviv, needs a NEUROENDOSCOPE!

This equipment will help to better treat children with tumours, hydrocephalus and other severe brain pathologies.

To save a baby weighing only 2.5 kg, neurosurgeons at St Nicholas Children's Hospital of the First Medical Unit of Lviv performed brain surgery on a newborn.

Denysko was born two weeks earlier than planned. He was born with pneumonia. A few days later, during an ultrasound, doctors discovered that the baby had suffered a brain haemorrhage, i.e. a stroke. When the swelling started to appear, Denys's mother and father were urgently referred to the neurosurgeons at St. Nicholas Hospital for treatment.

Our specialists diagnosed the baby with hydrocephalus, which is also commonly known as dropsy of the brain. This is an intracranial accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid - cerebrospinal fluid, which without intervention inevitably leads to organ damage. Moreover, as a result of the stroke, blood clots formed in the ventricles, and they had to be removed as soon as possible.

Our neurosurgeons Taras Mykytyn and Ihor Gomeniuk decided to immediately operate on Denys, who was not even a month old at the time. And the boy weighed only 2.5 kilograms! During the first surgery, doctors used a special device - a neuroendoscope - to remove blood clots through a small incision of just a few millimetres. Without this operation, the baby's brain could have been severely damaged. During the second intervention, neurosurgeons fitted Denys with an Omnium reservoir. This is a device that will allow doctors to easily remove excess fluid from the child's brain and regulate cerebral pressure in case of repeated swelling.

Now, after two life-saving surgeries, Denis is doing better. But for some time to come, the boy and his mother will have to stay in hospital. More than 2 months have passed since the boy was born, but they have not been home yet.

‘Most of all, I want to show him our home, my brother and sister for the first time. To hug the children, to be together, to laugh! I never thought that I would miss such simple things that we take for granted so much,’ says Inna, Denis's mother.

To save such young patients, our doctors desperately need a new neuroendoscope. The existing device used for Denis's surgery has almost completely exhausted its life over the years. And this is, without exaggeration, a vital tool for saving children with early strokes, hydrocephalus, brain tumours and traumatic brain injuries.

That is why we are launching a fundraising campaign for a neuroendoscope with the charity platform dobro.ua. Each of you can contribute to saving little Ukrainians in need of neurosurgery!

We thank each and every one of you who helps our doctors save children! Join the collection and help save children with brain diseases.

That is why we are launching a life-saving fundraiser for a neuroendoscope with the dobro.ua charity platform. Its cost is just over UAH 1.2 million.

Join the initiative and help to save children with brain diseases.
