Long and happy life for Sofia

At 4.5 years old, Sonia was diagnosed with diabetes. Despite the disease, she practices judo and takes prizes in competitions. To control her glucose levels, Sofiia uses Freestyle Libre 2 sensors. She also needs a syringe pen and needles for insulin injections. The total fee for a syringe pen, needles and a year's supply of sensors is not a family's budget.

Sonia is a goal-oriented, persistent and sociable girl. For the last 3 years, she has been successfully involved in judo, has many cups and awards. Sofia also loves walking with her dog Bonia.

A month before diabetes was discovered, Sonia lost weight sharply, she developed thirst, weakness, and irritability.

On October 18, 2018, Sofia was admitted to the Cherkasy Regional Children's Hospital with a glucose level of 13.5 mmol / l with a norm of up to 5. She spent many days in intensive care. Due to sharp "jumps" in sugar, she had to prick her fingers every hour, the wounds hurt and did not have time to heal.

Then her parents bought Freestyle Libre 2 sensors, thanks to which the number of punctures decreased several times. Since then, Sonia has been using them constantly. The sensors measure the level of glucose in the blood every minute; via Bluetooth, the data is sent to the phones of her mother and father. One sensor costs 2,192 UAH, unfortunately, it works only for 14 days.

Sofia injects insulin 4-6 times a day using a syringe pen and needles. Their cost is 6,900 UAH.

Sonia's glucose level is very unstable and fluctuates from 1.9 to 22. Constant use of the sensor prevents hypo- and hyperglycemia, which minimizes possible complications from vision, kidneys and heart and gives a good chance of living a long and happy life.
