At the age of 4.5, Sonya was diagnosed with diabetes. Despite her illness, she is a judo practitioner and wins prizes at competitions. To monitor her glucose levels, Sofia uses sensors. She also needs a syringe pen and needles to inject insulin. The total amount of the fee for a syringe pen, needles and a year's supply of sensors is unaffordable for the family.
In accordance with the agreement No. 21 on cooperation between the CO ICF ‘Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace’ and the Charity Operator of the Charity Fund “Pomohayem” dated 31.08.2020 and the additional agreement No. 21.306 dated 25.03.2025, the project ‘Long and Happy Life for Sonya’ was posted on the dobro.ua website to attract charitable donations to pay for the treatment of Sofia Gishchina.
During the fundraising, it became necessary to use part of the funds raised on the website of the Ukrainian Charity Exchange - dobro.ua - to purchase part of the Freestyle libre 2 sensors and 4 mm DB Micro Fine Ultra Pro needles for the girl. Therefore, according to the letter No. 155 dated 09.04.2025, we received the collected UAH 26,500.00 (twenty-six thousand five hundred hryvnias and 00 kopecks) to the account of the Foundation and continued to collect on the dobro.ua platform.
On 24.04.2025, thanks to the donors of the Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace who closed the Sonia collection, we received UAH 35,983.00 (thirty-five thousand nine hundred and eighty-three hryvnias and 00 kopecks) to the Foundation's account to pay for treatment and project administration.
In April 2025, we purchased the much-needed Freestyle Libre-2 sensors and Micro Fine Ultra Pro 4 mm DB needles for Sofia for a total of UAH 59,508.00 (fifty-nine thousand five hundred and eight hryvnias and 00 kopecks). We also paid for the project administration.
The girl's mother Olena writes: "Sonya is growing up, her hormonal levels are changing, so her sugars can fluctuate constantly. The sensor is vital, like water and air, because it shows the whole picture, so you can take measures in advance. The use of sensors means a quality life without the risk of deep hypoglycaemia, full-fledged sports, and a powerful help for our family."
So far, all the funds transferred from the Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace have been spent on the child's needs.
We sincerely thank the donors and partners of dobro.ua for their help, and the UBB team for their long-term cooperation!
