Olesia has spina bifida. The consequences of this birth defect have been inexorably affecting her life for fourteen years. A whole book could be written about the many surgeries Olesia underwent. But there are hardly enough words to express the embarrassment and uncertainty of a teenager who must wear loose clothing to conceal a tube in her abdomen and diaper wherever she goes.
In September 2019, Yevgeny Minevich, a professor in the United States, is coming to Ukraine to perform a series of advanced urological operations that are not otherwise performed in Ukraine and cost tens of thousands of dollars abroad. Whether Olesia is among the fortunate patients depends only on us!
A complex disease belies the simple term "spina bifida" which is prenatal malformation of the spine when one or more vertebrae are not completely closed allowing the spinal cord to herniate. Different dysfunctions arise depending on severity. Some children can walk and take care of themselves; others remain paralyzed forever. It could be said that.
Olesia was fortunate in that her spina bifida isn’t the most severe. Olesia feels her legs and walks independently. Her ailment is different: innervation of the pelvic organs is defective. A tube cystostomy carries urine from her bladder. Olesia underwent a dozen surgeries and spent hundreds of days hospitalized. Shyness and uncertainty became her companions. After all, she always has to restrain herself, holding back emotions (because even laughter can provoke urination), and wear loose clothing to conceal the truth beneath. She has become a homebody, afraid of peer ridicule.
Olesia was able to share her earnest hope that her dream will come true: to be free of diapers forever. Now, this future is closer than ever. Professor Minevich plans a surgery on her bladder which now is like that of a one-year-old child. This operation will be free as part of a scientific and practical conference! It is necessary to pay only for Olesia's stay in the clinic and postoperative care, costing 70 000 UAH (about $2800 USD).
This is a unique chance not to be missed!
