Yaroslava is a cheerful and sociable girl. She loves her pets very much and has a talent for drawing and dancing. Yaroslava is eagerly awaiting the start of the school year: like all children, she is very dreamy and sometimes impatient. However, she has given up hope and expectations for the thing she desires most – that her diabetes, which she has been battling for over a year, will finally go away.
She knows that she will have to inject insulin, carry sugar with her, and prick her fingers up to 15 times a day for the rest of her life. It has become normal for her to have blood tests and go to the hospital. She has learned to be disciplined and responsible. The only thing she cannot do yet is inject herself with insulin using a pen, although she already twists the needles and makes sure they let the insulin through.
A planned hospitalization in early summer ended with disappointing results – the girl was diagnosed with vision problems. Ophthalmologists diagnosed her with “diabetic cataracts in both eyes” and prescribed glasses, recommending even more careful monitoring of her blood sugar and postponing surgery to replace the lenses for as long as possible.
That is why continuous glucose monitoring sensors are as essential as air for Yaroslava. Unfortunately, however, they are an unaffordable luxury for her family: the girl lives in a small village with her parents and grandfather. Her mother works in a nursing home for the elderly and people with disabilities, and her father works at a local agricultural company. The family has already received assistance from the foundation – thanks to the sensors, Yaroslava's test results have improved significantly, and the frightening episodes of hypoglycemia have become less frequent, as her parents could see her blood sugar levels and react in time to help their child. The help of caring people gave the family hope – please help them not to lose it again!
