Yustyna is 5 years old and has no memory of herself without painful insulin injections and finger pricks. She was diagnosed with the incurable condition of type 1 diabetes when she was just 2 years old.
Yustynka is an intelligent, active, and creative girl. She loves drawing, sculpting, and cutting out crafts. She very much wants to attend kindergarten, develop her creativity, and make friends with other children – but due to a weak immune system she is often ill. On top of this, her mother cannot leave her at kindergarten for long because of the need for constant blood sugar monitoring. Yustyna adores all kinds of treats and watches with pain in her eyes as her older sisters can eat without injections. She has to inject insulin 5–6 times a day. Right now Yustyna is losing her baby teeth and is prone to frequent colds, which makes her blood sugar very unstable. Any illness causes sharp fluctuations in glucose levels, forcing her to do painful finger pricks up to 15 times a day. The only thing that saves the situation is a sensor – with it, Yustyna's fingers can heal, there is no need for blood sugar checks in the middle of the night, and her mother has at least some peace of mind about her daughter and can rest at night. The sensor sends alerts on its own when blood sugar drops or goes out of range, allowing her mother to respond in time.
Her mother is constantly by her daughter's side and therefore cannot work. Diabetes requires round-the-clock monitoring. Her father works alone and provides for their large family with the bare essentials, but there is simply not enough money for sensors. The family is reaching out with a request for help to spare Yustynka from painful finger pricks.
Together we can give this child the chance to create crafts without fear and pain in her little fingers!
