A boy from a large family needs help
Vsevolod spent his 11th birthday in the intensive care unit of a hospital with type 1 diabetes. It was hard to believe. His large family had recently lost their seven-year-old daughter to this terrible disease. Despite the panic and tears, the family began to fight for their son's life.
Vsevolod is a sincere and energetic boy, endowed with leadership qualities and the ability to achieve success. He enjoys going to school, actively plays soccer and is studying English. But diabetes has changed his life. Up to 10 times a day, he needs to pierce his finger to measure his sugar level, a regimen of two types of insulin pens, constant testing, and keeping a diary of every day of his life. The child cannot just eat any food, whether berries, porridge, bread or ice cream, without the appropriate dose of insulin, because it is dangerous for his life. Parents weigh all the foods several times a day in raw and cooked form, measure carbohydrates and calculate the correct dose of insulin. It's painful to see a child who wants sweets so badly but can't have them because of restrictions and a diet.
Unfortunately, diabetes leads to serious damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves, and is the main cause of kidney failure. Already in the fourth month of his illness, Vsevolod began to have problems with his thyroid gland, and his hair began to fall out. And recently he had to undergo an operation, which seems to be simple for a healthy person, but not for a child with diabetes.
Therefore, to maintain a full and healthy body, it is necessary to use special blood sugar monitoring. This not only frees the child from constant finger pricking to check the sugar level with a glucometer, but also gives a clear control over the child's health. The importance of healthy sleep for the child and parents cannot be overemphasized, as with the sensor, there is no need to wake up in the middle of the night for another sugar measurement, just look at your phone.
Life with diabetes is complicated, unpredictable and difficult to control. It's not only hard on the family, but also financially, so they have to seek help.
