Katia's small family has had a difficult life. Her older sister, Mariyka, has cerebral palsy: she has been using a wheelchair for over 15 years. The family constantly fights for every step in the girl's life, undergoing complex rehabilitation courses. In June this year, the girl was given a serious diagnosis: type 1 diabetes. The disease is developing rapidly: Katia's eyesight has already deteriorated, and she needs to wear glasses. Most importantly, every day of the girl's life is now subject to a schedule of injections, measurements, and a strict diet.
Katrusia is a very sincere and cheerful girl who loves animals, especially her cat Kuzia. She draws, attends an art club, and has many friends. She just wants to live, play, and not be afraid of another finger prick or injection. Instead of a carefree childhood, she struggles every day – measuring her sugar levels, counting every gram of carbohydrates, and giving herself painful insulin injections. This is an incredible burden even for an adult. But the girl is holding on.
There is a chance to ease her daily struggle – continuous glucose monitoring sensors, which significantly reduce the number of painful pricks and allow her to track her sugar levels 24/7. These sensors are literally a lifesaver for children's fingers and peace of mind.
But the cost of one sensor is high, and it only lasts for 14 days. Two are needed every month. The family lives solely on social benefits and cannot afford the treatment on their own.
