Nadia is a patient of the National Institute of Cancer but she has to interrupt an important treatment at the Institute because of chickenpox quarantine. At the hospital of the girl’s hometown there have never been those medicines with which the girl was treated in the capital. Still treatment process must not be stopped in any case. That’s why our Foundation has announced an urgent fundraising to purchase medicines for Nadia, so that she could continue treatment at home.

Little Nadia fell ill in July 2012. At first there was a suspicion that it was just an insect’s sting – there was a little spot like a button. After six months the swelling began to increase, so the parents referred to the hospital. The girl was diagnosed with hematoma. She spent four days at the department where she was given antibiotics and then the doctor suggested going to Ivano-Frankivsk or Mukachevo to remove the hematoma.

On 6th November 2012 the girl was operated on in Ivano-Frankivsk where the results of histology showed a different diagnosis: embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the soft tissues. A month later the tumor increased again so Nadia’s family went to Mukachevo for another examination. Meanwhile the test results (wax blocks and slides) came from the National Institute of Cancer in Kyiv confirming the above mentioned diagnosis. The mother with the daughter went to Kyiv for examination and treatment but they had to wait another five weeks… Metastases in the lungs were found too. Then Nadia fell ill with bronchitis and the first chemotherapy had to be postponed. The following three cycles the girl underwent at the hospital of her hometown.

Some time ago the child came to Kyiv again for a consultation on further treatment. The examinations showed the tumor on the arm significantly decreased but metastases increased three times. She has to continue chemotherapy, but... But at the pediatric department of the National Institute of Cancer there is chickenpox quarantine, so Nadia with her weak immune system cannot stay in Kyiv. Chemotherapy cannot be stopped in any case because the metastases would continue increasing. However, at the local hospital there are no necessary medicines: Hycamtin (analogue to Topotecan) and Carboplatin. The family has already exhausted all the available resources and cannot purchase the medicines at their own expense. And now Nadia’s life is in danger just because the provincial medicine is in a much worse state than that in the capital, and the oncology departments there are not provided even with basic medicines not to mention the supportive one.

Save the little girl who found herself in a difficult situation because of circumstances beyond her control. Help to raise funds for medicines that must be purchased as soon as possible!!!
