When warmth is life

Every day in Ukraine, babies are born when they were too young to be born. Babies weighing 500, 700 or 1000 grams. Their life begins not with a mother's lullaby, but with a struggle. And the first condition for this struggle is warmth. Babies born before 37 weeks have not yet developed a thermoregulatory system. They cannot maintain their body temperature on their own. Even in the warmest room, their bodies lose heat rapidly. And this is critical. Because the loss of even a few degrees means a serious risk of cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, and metabolic failure.

That is why heated medical mattresses are vital equipment. They maintain a newborn's body heat in the very first, most vulnerable hours and days of life. They literally create an environment for the child similar to the mother's belly - stable, soft, and protected.We are raising funds for the City Clinical Multidisciplinary Hospital №25* in Kharkiv. This medical facility has one of the few specialized neonatal intensive care units where doctors care for premature babies – even the smallest ones born at 24-25 weeks of gestation. Despite the war, regular shelling and lack of resources, doctors here save children's lives every day. But without warmth, they are powerless.

Today, the unit needs new professional medical heated mattresses that evenly maintain a constant body temperature, reduce the risk of hypothermia and complications, help preserve the newborn's energy for growth and stabilization, and work together with ventilators, monitors, and incubators.

This is not a luxury – it is a basic tool for survival. Kharkiv is one of the most affected cities in Ukraine. Bombings, alarms, evacuations, power outages. In such conditions, premature births become more frequent. Stress, acute illnesses, and physical injuries all affect the course of pregnancy. The number of babies born prematurely is growing. And that's why we need to be there for them.
