Every day matters

      Vladimir’s life changed dramatically in the spring of 2025, when he began to experience serious health problems. Following the detection and removal of a brain cyst, the boy’s condition deteriorated: he is now unable to stand or walk unaided, suffers from severe spasticity and has difficulty swallowing. Despite numerous examinations and consultations with specialists, an exact diagnosis for Volodymyr has yet to be established.
      In accordance with Cooperation Agreement No. 21 between the International Charitable Foundation ‘Ukrainian Charity Exchange’ and the charitable aid operator, the Charitable Foundation ‘POMAGAEM’, dated 31 August 2020, and Supplementary Agreement No. 21. 381 of 26 June 2026, the project ‘Every Day Counts’ was published on the website of the International Charitable Foundation ‘UBB’ – dobro.ua – with the aim of raising funds to cover the cost of Volodymyr Kolbaskin’s treatment.
      The initial target amount for the project was 225,215.00 UAH (two hundred and twenty-five thousand two hundred and fifteen hryvnias, 00 kopecks). At the end of July, the boy’s parents contacted us, concerned about the deterioration in his condition. As the doctors were unable to determine the next course of treatment without the results of genetic testing, the family decided not to wait for the fundraising campaign to conclude and borrowed the funds to carry out the necessary tests as quickly as possible.
      The family then travelled to Kyiv, where, at the Institute of Immunology, the boy was diagnosed with a neuroinfection caused by herpesviruses types 6 and 7, and was prescribed temporary supportive therapy with Bioven. After being administered two vials of the medicine, the child’s condition improved slightly — he regained his strength and energy. The specialists recommended continuing the treatment and undergoing two further courses, each consisting of three 50 ml vials of Bioven, whilst the family awaits the results of the genetic test.
      As the necessary tests have already been carried out, there is now a need to allocate the funds raised through the project to provide the child with the prescribed treatment. We have therefore requested permission to use these funds to purchase Bioven and provide treatment in accordance with the doctors’ recommendations.
      At the same time, in view of the change in circumstances, we are requesting that the fundraising campaign be closed, that the project amount on UBB be reduced to the amount actually raised – 172,723.30 UAH (one hundred and seventy-two thousand seven hundred and twenty-three hryvnias, 30 kopecks) and to transfer the funds to our current account to cover the cost of Volodymyr’s treatment and the administration of the project, in accordance with letter No. 334 dated 7 August 2026.
Thanks to the funds received, in August this year we purchased and delivered medicines for Vova totalling 44,748.00 UAH (forty-four thousand seven hundred and forty-eight hryvnias, 00 kopecks).
      The child’s condition is currently stable, with no significant changes. After Vova was administered three vials of ‘Bioven’, he had a high temperature for two days, which alarmed the family. However, following the course of treatment, his parents noted that he had gained a little more strength. The next course of the medication has been postponed for the time being, and they are continuing to monitor the child’s condition.
      In the near future, the boy will need a standing frame, as he is no longer able to stand unaided. His posture is gradually deteriorating due to constant hunching. A standing frame is essential for safely maintaining an upright position and ensuring correct posture. It is also very important for the user to undergo regular rehabilitation to maintain their physical condition and prevent further deterioration.
      We plan to use the remaining funds, amounting to 127,975.30 UAH (one hundred and twenty-seven thousand nine hundred and seventy-five hryvnias, 30 kopecks), to meet the young man’s needs in October and November 2026.
