A Step Toward the Future for Yehor

Math, reading, and swimming are just a few of Yehor's favorite activities. To keep learning, growing, and developing, he needs ongoing treatment, regular medical tests, and therapy sessions. His mother is doing everything she can, but she can no longer afford the cost of his care on her own.

Yehor was born at 38 weeks of pregnancy. During birth, he experienced oxygen deprivation and, from his first months of life, was monitored by a neurologist while undergoing regular therapy and massage courses.

At the age of three, he began experiencing difficulties with speech, behaviour, and concentration. Genetic testing later revealed disorders affecting his folate cycle and amino acid metabolism. These conditions interfere with the functioning of his nervous system and slow the development of his speech.

In 2019, Yehor was admitted to intensive care after suffering a severe attack of breathlessness caused by a pollen allergy. He also has lactose intolerance and must follow a special diet.

Yehor is now 11 years old and has moved on to the fifth grade. His favourite subject is math. He enjoys reading, watching movies, wood burning, and swimming. He has an excellent memory and a kind heart.

A year ago, a neurologist prescribed a regimen of medications for Yehor, based on the results of a DNA test conducted by an American laboratory. Just three months after he started taking them, the child seemed to come alive. He became attentive and level-headed, and stopped getting nervous when things did not go well during his sessions.

And Yehor has a lot of sessions: with a speech therapist, a psychologist, and other specialists. His mother does not work; she accompanies her son to his appointments and oversees his treatment.

The monthly medication is expensive. We are launching a fundraiser to cover three months' worth of medication and blood tests costing 7,915 UAH to monitor thyroid function, mineral levels, and amino acid levels. Together, we can help Yehor thrive!
