Sometimes, the most important words get stuck inside. From a very young age, a child begins to understand, wants to speak, but the sounds just won’t come out.
War steals not only safety but also the most precious thing – a child’s ability to speak, to explore the world, to laugh, and to whisper their secrets. The psychological block caused by the horrors they have lived through locks their speech away.
These children lose themselves: they cannot ask for help, cannot answer in class, cannot even say “hello.” This creates a profound social isolation. Without speech therapy intervention, they risk being left on the margins of life – because instead of growing and learning, they spend their energy fighting the fear of uttering a single word.
We don’t wait for wounds to heal on their own. We act. At our Foundation, we have a speech-language pathologist and defectologist who does more than just teach sounds. They build a bridge between the child and the world. Their sessions include articulation exercises, special diaphragmatic breathing techniques, psycholinguistic approaches to restore the ability to formulate thoughts (not just repeat syllables), and social adaptation so that children can once again learn to play and connect with others.
We work with two groups of children: those from the families we support, and residents of the Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation. Sessions with our specialist are "gymnastics for the tongue" – therapy through sound, where, through play and trust, we untangle the knot of fear.
Our young clients have already taken their first steps, but regular sessions are the key to lasting success.
To ensure our speech therapist can work consistently with the children waiting for help, we need your support. With your contribution, we will be able to cover the therapist’s salary, purchase essential speech therapy materials, and pay for internet access to prepare and conduct sessions. Help these children find their voices again and give them a happy future.
