About 5-6 injections and 15 finger pricks per day are a painful experience for eight-year-old Sofiia. She was diagnosed with diabetes six months ago in intensive care, where Sonia was admitted with a glucose level of 13 mmol/ l with a norm of up to 5. For the sake of her daughter, Alla even had to quit her job. In order to painlessly monitor glucose fluctuations, the girl needs sensors.

In October 2022, Zaporizhzhia was shelled every night. Sofiia jumped out of bed, ran into the corridor, covered her ears with her hands and cried from fear. Alla and her daughter then went to Mirhorod for a while, and then returned home again.

In January 2024, Sonia developed a strong thirst. At some point, the girl felt so bad that an ambulance had to be called. In intensive care, the child's glucose level was recorded as 3 times higher than normal.

The endocrinologist prescribed two insulin drugs and recommended using a pump and sensors. They not only significantly reduce the pain from injections, but also prevent dangerous peaks in glucose levels, which are destructive to internal organs and limit the lifespan of patients with diabetes.

Alla is raising her daughter alone. When she was still working, she was able to buy several sensors. They automatically measure glucose levels every 5 minutes, and you don't have to prick your fingers around the clock. But the sensor only works 14 days, and the cost is more than 2,000 UAH.

Sofiia is studying in the 3rd grade online because she is embarrassed to measure sugar and give insulin injections in front of strangers. Working with a psychologist helps Sonia accept her illness.

The girl loves to draw and attends an art school. She talks about her dreams and fantasies with the help of pencils and paper. Sonia dreams of becoming a graphic designer.

We are opening a collection for a year's supply. These funds will be enough to purchase 24 Freestyle libre 2 sensors. The family's only income is alimony and disability payments. Please help Sonia!
