4-year-old Maksym Yarovenko needs funds for a new rehabilitation course – to keep developing and building on the progress he has already made. Maksym has spastic quadriplegia – the most severe form of cerebral palsy (CP), in which all four limbs are affected. It is characterized by high muscle tone (spasticity) that limits or prevents independent movement.
At birth, the umbilical cord wrapped around Maksym's neck, causing hypoxia and a brain injury. His first days were spent in intensive care, and the following weeks in the neonatal pathology unit. Despite his critical condition, the boy survived. But the consequences of the injury made themselves known: developmental delay, cerebral palsy, and structural epilepsy.
Maksym's first year of life was one of relentless struggle: hospitals, rehabilitation centers, procedures. Each course brought hope – but also significant financial strain for the family. Thanks to the support of caring people, Maksymchyk received the chance to undergo another rehabilitation course – and it made a difference: his muscles grew stronger and he began showing more emotions. Now Maksymchyk is actively working on the skills of sitting and crawling.
