Mark is a cheerful 8-year-old boy. Often inattentive and impulsive, lacking in self-confidence, and impatient – yet at the same time intelligent and caring, a "daydreamer with his head in the clouds". He is easily distracted and misses details, forgetful in everyday tasks and unable to sit still, because he has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). He also has another condition – an incurable disease: type 1 diabetes, in a severe, insulin-dependent form.
At the age of 5, on the eve of the New Year, Mark contracted COVID-19, which in turn caused irreparable damage to the child's health and likely triggered the onset of diabetes. To measure his blood sugar, Mark needs to prick his fingers frequently – approximately 10 times a day – and administer around 8-10 insulin injections, even at night. His blood sugar levels are very unstable. The boy frequently experiences sudden drops and rapid spikes in blood sugar. Both of these states are extremely dangerous, negatively affecting his health, quickly leading to serious complications, and potentially causing a coma. As diabetes affects the eyes, the child's vision has deteriorated sharply. Mark now wears glasses permanently.
For Mark's life to be safe and the complications from his illness to be kept to a minimum, the child needs a continuous blood glucose monitoring system to track his sugar levels on a smartphone in real time. This allows threats to be responded to in time.
Since monitoring is expensive and Mark is being raised by his mother alone, she sincerely asks for support in providing Mark with sensors. Your help means the chance for this child to sleep peacefully, study alongside his peers, and simply live.
