Mykola is a kind, sincere, and generous 11-year-old boy who believes in miracles. He loves treating his friends to sweets, playing volleyball, and most of all – spending time with his mum and dad fishing and swimming in the Dnipro.
When Mykola was 10 years old, he suddenly felt very unwell in the middle of the night and nearly lost consciousness. That is how the boy ended up in intensive care. Shortly after came the words that changed the life of the entire family forever: "Type 1 diabetes, severe form." After treatment at the regional hospital, the family's life was divided into "before" and "after," and many of Mykola's memories now begin with the words: "When I didn't have diabetes yet…".
At just 11 years old, Mykola has become a true hero for his parents. Every day he independently administers his own insulin injections, pricks his fingers to measure his blood sugar, and learns to count carbohydrates and weigh his food. Despite his age, he bravely endures all the procedures and trials that the illness has brought.
To manage his diabetes, Mykola uses continuous glucose monitoring sensors. They help detect dangerous blood sugar fluctuations in time and prevent life-threatening episodes, especially at night, when glucose levels can drop critically.
Over a year and a half of fighting the disease, the family's financial resources have been significantly depleted, as treatment and diabetes management supplies require ongoing and substantial costs. Kolia's family will be sincerely grateful to everyone for any help in purchasing monitoring sensors.
