This brave boy has been fighting for life since day one. Maksym was born with hypoxia and umbilical cord torsion – he did not scream at birth. Maksym was not breathing. Doctors immediately began resuscitation and connected him to a ventilator. Because he swallowed amniotic fluid, he was diagnosed with congenital pneumonia.

Maksym spent the first 12 days of his life in the intensive care unit, including 8 days on a ventilator. Later, he often needed an oxygen mask as his blood oxygen level dropped. For almost a month and a half, Maksym was fed through a feeding tube, and he was anemic until he was five months old. Then he developed seizures and was treated with anticonvulsant therapy, which, fortunately, was effective. In total, Maksym spent almost two months in the hospital.

At home, his mother noticed that his development was different from other children his age. The parents are doing everything they can to help their son: they take him to massage therapy and rehabilitation centers, consult with neurologists, and provide him with medication.

Now Maksym is 2 years old: he eats and breathes on his own, but still does not sit or crawl. He actively moves his legs, rolls over on his stomach and back, but his arms, shoulders, neck and head remain weak. Maksym hardly holds his head and has difficulty holding toys.

To improve his motor development, he needs high-quality, systematic rehabilitation.
