Sugar monitoring for Yaroslav
This cheerful and athletic 9-year-old boy grew up very early. And all because the boy had to get acquainted with a serious and incurable disease. His acquaintance with diabetes began in February 2023. The war, the constant anxiety and stressful situations associated with it became the catalyst for Yaroslav's illness. The boy who loved sports, did workouts and dreamed of becoming a football player became unrecognizable to his family. He was a child who was hard to make eat. How happy his mother was when Yaroslav was constantly hungry. But at the same time, everyone noticed that the child was losing weight and was constantly thirsty. He used to sleep all night without waking up, but now he was thirsty both day and night. Yaroslav also began to complain of constant fatigue. All the symptoms indicated that he needed to check his blood sugar. Then everything was a blur: test results with 25 mmol of sugar, intensive care in the regional hospital, and an introduction to diabetes, insulin, and a glucometer.
That's how Yaroslav's life changed, and every day in the hospital he asked his mother when he would be cured and return home. The boy, who had never been in the hospital before, was afraid of daily insulin injections and finger punctures and could not understand why he could not eat what he wanted or what he was used to, why he had to be weighed and injected for every meal. The child refused to eat because then he had to inject insulin. Over time, the boy overcame his fear and started injecting insulin himself, gradually learned to count food, and realized that he needed to constantly monitor his sugar level.
Back in the hospital, the mother began to look for ways to make life easier for her child. After all, it was hard to watch his finger being repeatedly punctured every day. Of course, Yaroslav was afraid of it. But when he tried the sensor, he realized that it was a significant relief from his suffering. Children do not always realize the danger of diabetes. And childhood diabetes is very unpredictable. Severe complications resulting from a sharp drop or rise in blood sugar lead to a shorter life expectancy. In the modern world, these problems are solved by online monitoring with the help of sensors and insulin pumps that can simulate the lost function of a human organ.
The problem is that these sensors are expensive, and the state does not provide them for free. In Yaroslav's family, only his father works. His mother does not work because she also has a group 3 disability. There is also a brother who suffers from bronchial asthma. The family's budget can't bear the burden, and the family is asking for your help in purchasing the sensors.
