Ivan's silence, which can be overcome

Ivanko is an eight-year-old boy with a curious and sad look in his eyes. His world is a world where sounds, gestures and looks have special meaning. Born in the winter of 2017, Ivanko spent the first year of his life developing like most children: he explored the world around him with curiosity, imitated sounds, and spoke his first words. But after a year, his life began to change. A regression came: words disappeared, games ceased to interest him, and stereotypical movements took their place, absorbing the boy more and more every day.

Ivan's diagnosis is atypical autism, moderate mental retardation and systemic underdevelopment of the first level of speech. This means that it is difficult for the boy to build connections with the world around him, he has difficulties with communication, learning and self-care skills. But this does not mean that he has no chances. Ivanko is working hard with specialists to learn basic household skills, communicate and adapt to society.

His rehabilitation began when he was a year and a half old. The specialists gave hope for progress, because early work with a child always opens up more opportunities. During this time, there were many small victories: the first understandable gestures, basic self-service skills, attempts to interact with familiar adults. But there is still a long way to go. Now it is very important to continue systematic training.

For his mother, this rehabilitation is a chance to open the door to the world for Ivan, where he can express his needs, play with other children, and feel part of society. But the cost of the treatment is unbearable for her.
