Artem is a kind, sincere, and very neat boy. He has many friends, does well in school, and always helps out at home. Like every child, Artem dreams of simple things: going to soccer practice, hanging out with friends, and not having to think about painful injections. But his childhood is different.
Artem was born prematurely, at seven months, with a low birth weight. He was often sick from a young age. At four and a half years old, during routine tests, doctors discovered an extremely high blood sugar level. The terrible diagnosis was made: type 1 diabetes. Since then, Artem’s life has changed forever.
Every day brings constant blood sugar monitoring, dozens of pricks on his little fingers, and insulin injections. Every day and every night is a struggle. It’s pain, fear, and tears that break his mother’s heart. Yet despite everything, Artem is growing into a strong and courageous boy. Thanks to the love and support of his mom and older brother, he doesn’t give up and continues to dream.
The family lives in a small town in the Odesa region. His mom has to be by her son’s side at all times, as Artem still can’t administer insulin injections on his own. The family’s life is completely centered on fighting the disease. Artem really wants to live a normal childhood. Special sensors for continuous blood sugar monitoring—without painful finger pricks every time—can ease his daily struggle. This is a chance to reduce pain and fear and give the child more freedom and joy.
Every bit of your support is another step toward Artem’s dream. Help him simply be a child!
