Prokhor's dream is to get rid of diabetes
In 2017, the Prokhor family came under fire when they evacuated their great-grandmother from Donetsk. After suffering stress, the boy developed symptoms of diabetes. Doctors confirmed the diagnosis. To reduce health risks, Prokhor has been using an insulin pump and sensors since 2022. We are launching a fundraiser to provide the guy with consumables for the pump and sensors for a year.
Prokhor’s story once again reminds us that the war did not start in 2022, and that in addition to and destruction, it brings with it a lot of less obvious consequences. At the time of that move, Prosha was seven, and all these years he was a healthy, strong baby. And soon after the shelling, which seemed to end well for the family, the boy developed thirst, weakness, and his weight dropped sharply.
Olena, a nurse by training, suspected diabetes. The result of the analysis confirmed her guess. The blood glucose levels were so much higher than normal that boy was immediately taken to the intensive care unit. The hospital stabilized his condition and prescribed insulin.
The life of the child and his mother turned into hell, because insulin injections had to be done 6-7 times a day, and fingers had to be pricked to control glucose up to 10 times; the wounds simply did not have time to heal. One day Prokhor, unable to bear the torment, exclaimed: "I don’t want to live like this!".
Elena began to look for a philanthropist who would help purchase a pump and found him in Warsaw. The pump was installed in the endocrinology department of the OKHMATDYT hospital in July 2022, and new insulin preparations were selected. A smile finally began to appear on the boy's face!
At the same time, Prokhor began using a sensor that automatically measures glucose levels every 5 minutes and displays the result on the screen. At a critical level, a sound signal sounds. After that, if necessary, the required dose of insulin is administered using a pump.
Prosha is a kind boy. He loves to draw, plant seeds of different plants and watch them grow. He loves his dog Ada, and his favorite school subject is zoology. And Prokhor’s main dream is to get rid of diabetes.
We are launching a fundraiser to provide Prokhor with insulin pump supplies and sensors for a year. The mother is raising her son alone, and she can't cope on her own. Let's give the boy a childhood without pain and suffering!
