I dream to be on my feet
In carrying out their daily activities people almost always use their hands, but not so many of them think of their real value. Unfortunately, only losing something you can understand its critical importance! Unsuccessful diving into the water and getting a compression fracture of the vertebrae in the cervical spine, Vitaliy changed the rhythm of his life forever. But he hasn't lost a strong will to life and, despite the great difficulty in walking, above all he is trying to live a full life.
When Vitaliy's body was immobilized and his hands and fingers refused to work – many difficulties in his life appeared. Even the simple usual actions were difficult to perform, such as cutting bread or picking something up from the floor.
Devoting much time to exercise and rehabilitation much he had achieved a lot, but the injury is severe and there are some functions that still can not be restored – such as working fingers. Fortunately, over the years of that problem options were found for replacing these mechanical capabilities – special clips that through active muscles can perform the usual functions taking items and sitting in a wheelchair and reaching items on the upper shelves. Due to these, he will be able to cut bread, get a bowl from a cabinet, to raise any thing from the floor and perform a lot of actions that routinely are done by an ordinary person. These things can be called rehabilitation equipment. That is, in fact, they will replace the hands, literally, when the fingers are not working they allow you to move the object or cut any of the products.
"I've known Vitaliy for many years. When he only got the injury and was totally dependent on others, even then you could see the indomitable spirit and desire for independence, despite a very weak physical condition. It happened so in my life that I was able to observe his development after trauma and its purposefulness. We do not even notice when we became a couple and now I can say for sure that this is a Man with M capitalized! Vitaliy is trying to be fully independent and he is always trying to help others. But an injury in the cervical spine, does not allow, in the physical aspect, for his hands to work. We have one pair of hands for both of us!" - says Vitaliy's wife Ulyana.
After the injury he had to learn to use hands in a new way. In the first years it seemed that he will never be able to serve himself, but his persistence and work dispelled these doubts – he learned to dress by himself, move and learned to use the wheelchair.
It's needed to collect 6 619 UAH for a set of technical tools that are able to replace lost functions of hands.
