At one of the food distributions for the homeless, a 35-year-old man approached us and asked for help with warm clothes: he needed pants and warm gloves. Along with the food, we gave him warm gloves and winter pants. At the next food distribution, this man came up to us and said: "Guess what, I didn't sell the clothes you gave me and it didn't disappear! I also found a job this week! I am working as a janitor now, thank you!".

This is just one of dozens of stories that shows us that often a person just needs very little to start the path of life changings: to eat and to be dressed in clean clothes according to the current weather.

The problem: every year, with the onset of the cold season, homeless people find themselves on the edge of survival. Last year it was a lockdown, and this year – the threat of rocket attacks, power cuts and hunger.. Now, with the arrival of the cold season, there is a real danger of a sharp increase in the number of deaths among homeless people due to the constant lack of food and the increased difficulty of accessing it. This is a direct threat to their life and health.

Solution: to start a project #fed2022 to raise funds for emergency local assistance to homeless people, who are on the brink of survival. The collected funds will be used to purchase 1,350 lunches for homeless people in Kyiv, which we will distribute during three and a half months.

The cost of one lunch for a homeless person is 107.6 UAH. This lunch will consist of three dishes: chicken soup, rice with meat gravy, stuffed pastries and bread. The price of the lunch also includes the work of the cook, pastry chef and individual packaging from biodegradable materials. The total cost of the project, together with transport costs (including bank services) is 187 010,00 UAH.

The distribution of lunches will take place at two points in Kyiv – on Podil and Darnytsia. Volunteers will be recruited to help distribute hot food at distribution points, as well as to monitor safety during air alerts. At each stage of project implementation, the following staff will be present: project head, communication & project manager.

We aim to feed 1,350 homeless people within 3.5 months. Thanks to this campaign, we plan to partially satisfy the basic need in food of homeless people during the cold period of the year, thereby – reducing the mortality rate among them.

NGO ”Stormy Life” is a charitable organization that has been dealing with the needs of homeless people since 2019. Our goal is to design a high-quality process of reintegration of homeless people into society, find means of assistance to restore their social functions and implement their basic human humanitarian needs. In partnership together with a charity clothing store and catering establishments, we organize systematic feeding and humanitarian assistance to homeless people in Kyiv. Also, our organization provides targeted reintegration assistance to homeless people: we help them restore documents and find work.

Thanks to philanthropists and our subscribers, we are completely closing the project with funds from our treasury funds: https://dobro.ua/reserve_fund/suka_zhizn_2020.
