Hunger is devastating for a child’s body. But even ordinary food can become a source of joy. When a child has survived the trauma of war, explosions, or loss, they need more than just calories – they need balanced nutrition: rich in protein for cell repair, complex carbohydrates for energy, iron for brain development, and calcium for strong bones.
At our Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation of Children in Kyiv, 12 children aged 2 to 17 live full-time. These are children removed from dysfunctional families who need shelter and safety. Most suffer from chronic illnesses, weakened immune systems, developmental delays, exhaustion, pale skin, and brittle hair. Their bodies are depleted and in need of protection.
Feeding our children is a form of rehabilitation for their traumatized bodies, alongside psychological and educational support. It is a path to a healthy future. Shared meals in our cozy dining hall help children learn to eat together and not to hide food for later because they are afraid of being hungry again.
In the first days, we often see silence or children sitting alone in corners. After just a few weeks of healthy nutrition and full care, they begin to show joy, laugh, play, sleep better, strengthen their immunity, and their memory, attention, and thinking improve.
With your support, our project will purchase essential food products, cover the salary of our nutrition coordinator (who plans menus, ensures food quality, and makes sure every child gets tasty, nutritious meals), and pay for utilities.
Give children healthy nutrition. Together, we will feed them not just well – but wisely!
