Iryna is twelve years old and already a jack of all trades: she loves drawing and beadwork. Above all, the girl loves to read – she can lose herself in the world of books for hours. Her hobbies help her cope with the difficult diagnosis she has been living with for three and a half years – diabetes.
It all started when the child began to lose weight very quickly. The girl was constantly tired and had headaches. A blood test revealed excessive blood sugar levels, and the girl was immediately sent to intensive care. Since then, her life has been divided into "before" and "after". With her parents, she learned to fight back against the terrible diagnosis. Trips to the hospital, measuring her blood sugar many times a day, following dietary rules, and a daily schedule planned down to the hour became the norm for Iryna.
Diabetes has had consequences: the child's vision has deteriorated significantly, and she now needs glasses. It is still difficult for the girl to control her blood sugar and recognize dangerous conditions: if her blood sugar is too low, she feels dizzy and weak, but she does not feel anything at all when it is too high. Once, the girl simply did not notice that her blood sugar was almost six times higher than normal – she only found out in the intensive care unit.
To protect Iryna from such situations, she needs sensors for continuous blood sugar monitoring. They are quite expensive, so her family does not always have access to them. Help the girl leave the uncertainty of guesswork behind and take control of her own life!
