Teaching children from the orphanage

The Centre of socio-psychological rehabilitation in Kyiv is taking care of children with different life situations. Most of the time these are children from troubled families. Such children are often uneducated, which means that a family did not provide any parenting or studying. It occurs that these children have low intellectual abilities, speech disorders, tunnel vision, emotional instability, troubles in socialising, they can be exposed to immoral acts, can be afraid of adults as well as people of the same age.

Being in a family circle gives a child the first experience in communication. The perception of the world is formed based on that experience. The absence of education occurs as a result of lack of parents' involvement in a child's life, low income, unfavorable conditions, weak level of parents' education, frequent arguments, neglection, wrong views on upbringing. As a result, a "problem" child has conflicts with teachers, parents and other children. Psychological isolation and loneliness lower child's desire for education, a child starts to seek affirmation in antisocial groups.

Our social workers help such children. Not only they surround these children with love and care, create the atmosphere of family, help to socialise and teach them to follow simple rules of hygiene, but also organize special classes that develop children and help them to get prepared for school. In such classes, children are taught to express their emotions as well as counting, reading, writing, distinguishing objects' colours and shapes. It helps to develop their memory, attention span and thinking. Many events such as tea parties, poetry performances and holiday festivals are arranged for them. Social workers help children to organise a day regime which is vital for healthy development of a child. It makes a great impact on lives of children lacking parental care.
