Don’t lose the chance to walk

Bohdan could have taken his first steps many years ago if the correct diagnosis had been made in time. But the chance to walk is not lost yet – to make it possible, we urgently need to raise funds for surgery.

Bohdan’s family lives in Kryvyi Rih. He was born with Arnold–Chiari malformation, a congenital brain condition that disrupts the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid and leads to hydrocephalus – an accumulation of fluid in the brain.

Right after birth, the baby underwent two surgeries. Later, two more were needed to replace the shunt that drains excess fluid.

Bohdan is kind and sociable. He studies online in the 7th grade under an individual program. His favorite subject is the Ukrainian, and in his free time he enjoys playing computer games.

Bohdan can sit and stand for a short time. However, he can only take a few steps – and only with support. For a long time, doctors believed this was caused by a neurological condition. Only in November 2025, after an X-ray, was he diagnosed with a congenital dislocation of the left hip.

This condition can only be treated surgically. Bohdan needs a level 7 complexity surgery – a long and delicate procedure during which surgeons restore the correct position of the joint and fix the bone using special implants.

The surgery can be performed by specialists at the Pyrohov Medical and Surgical Center in Dnipro. After treatment and rehabilitation, Bohdan will be able to walk independently.

The family has low-income status. His mother does not work as she cares for her son. His father has a disability and earns a minimal salary.

We need to raise funds to cover the cost of the surgery. These funds will be used to pay for the anesthesiologist’s services, surgical instruments, supplies, osteosynthesis fixation devices, and post-operative care at the clinic. Let’s work together to help Bohdan take his first steps on his own!
