Little Dania has congenital polycystic kidney disease and liver fibrosis. Staying in hospitals, injections and medications – all of this with great difficulty supports state of the child. But the disease is relentless, the kidneys are failing. The boy urgently needs a transplant of cadaveric kidney, which is not done in Ukraine (the parents are not appropriate as donors). The only thing parents can do now is to watch how the baby is disappearing or to seek funds for surgery abroad. Transplantation in Belarus will cost 61,000 euros.
Dania was born on the March 2, 2011. During the first months of his life he was growing slowly and gaining weight badly. And when he being 3 months old he was taken to hospital with an intestinal infection, a bad test results prompted the doctors do an ultrasound of the kidneys. It turned out that the baby is seriously ill: he has autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease.
The entire first year of life Dania was examined and treated in hospitals, being 11 months old he had surgery for inguinal hernia, he has got disability being one year old. Last year during the survey in Kiev there was found out a new diagnosis: a accompanied by liver fibrosis.
In February 2016 Dania got bronchitis and it finally broke down his health. Kidney indicators reached the critical level and the boy was in intensive care. Through the efforts of doctors Dania was rescued and sent back to Kiev. There was found another diagnose – portal hypertension. All five years the boy is on constant maintenance therapy, every day he is taking medication, three times a week he has painful injections of iron to raise the hemoglobin level.
Dania is ordinary boy, he likes to play football and toy cars, and terribly misses his peers, but the kinder garden is contraindicated, because each infection carries a great danger. Now Dania is in predialysis state and he can’t remain on dialysis for a long time, it needs urgent kidney transplant. His mom has chronic pyelonephritis, his dad has hepatitis C, so they cannot be donors. The transplantation of cadaveric organs isn‘t done in Ukraine. The cheapest surgery is in Minsk, but this sum is inconceivable for parents.
Dania for his mom and dad is the only and unique because his disease is hereditary, and the probability that next children will also be carriers of this diagnosis is very large. We only collect on ubb website part of the money, other amount we plan to involve from other sources. Please help parents to save their beloved son!
