Mark is a cheerful, active boy who loves playing ball, running, and riding his bike. When he was seven years old, he contracted scarlet fever, and the disease proved to be relentless. It was very difficult, and the boy lost a lot of weight. Over time, his mother noticed that Mark began to drink a lot, constantly wanted to eat, but still lost weight. Concerned about the sudden symptoms, they went to the hospital, where they learned the boy's diagnosis: type 1 diabetes.
It was a shock for his mother, who was raising twins, Mark and his brother Daniel, on her own. The boy's life and that of his family changed forever. Because of her son's illness, his mother was forced to quit her job. The boy had to constantly check his blood sugar levels, and every finger prick and every insulin injection was a real ordeal for him. Mark had to follow a diet and learn to measure his sugar levels himself, while his mother helped him count bread units. Daniel also learned to measure his brother's sugar levels and always helps him. The boy loves going to school, and his mother is always there waiting for him outside his classroom. He also attends a 3D modeling club, and Mark loves creating various shapes and working with modeling programs.
In the first months of his life, Mark had to deal with ball joint dysplasia. Thanks to the doctors, his mom's efforts, and his grandparents' support, the boy got better and was walking by his first birthday. In addition to diabetes, Mark also has vision problems, chest deformity, and flat feet. The boy is a regular visitor to the orthodontist and ophthalmologist, goes to massage and physical therapy, and does exercises. His mother tries her best to make her son's life positive. Mark is now nine years old, and due to the severity of his diabetes, his mother has to be with him all the time. She cannot afford to buy sensors to measure his blood sugar levels so that she can monitor her son's condition at all times. The woman is raising two children on her own, so she cannot cope with all the financial costs associated with her son's illness, in particular the cost of glucose monitoring sensors.
