Oleksiy is waiting for Christmas miracle

A four-month-old Oleksiy has a rare disease – metope suture craniostenosis (trigonocephaly). Craniosynostosis occurs when one or more of the fibrous joints between the bones of a baby's skull close prematurely, before the brain is fully formed. Usually, the metope suture closes at the age of 6 months to 1.5 years, and its plasticity allows the child's brain to grow. If the metope suture heals prematurely, the brain that continues to grow pushes on the skull from the inside but cannot expand into the area that is closed over. This causes the head to grow into an unusual shape.

Oleksiy urgently needs surgery (reconstructive cranioplasty). If this procedure is not performed in time, the brain will not have enough space for growth and development – and the child will not be able to develop normally.  

This surgery requires special bio-plates to form a new head shape. Thus, the boy's brain will have room for growth, and there will be no threat of its compression. However, the bill for the necessary medical materials is almost 70,000 UAH. It is a tremendous amount of money for a young family where a father has a seasonal job, and the mother is on maternity leave while taking care of the 5-year old son at the same time. Unfortunately,  there is no time to wait. According to neurosurgeons, the best period for such operations is when the patient is between 4 and 6 months old.
