Premature babies come into the world too early, before their bodies are fully prepared for independent life. In the first days and weeks after birth, they are especially vulnerable, and their condition can change very quickly. That is why their lives often depend entirely on timely medical care, the professionalism of doctors, and, just as importantly, how well-equipped the unit is where they are being cared for.

At the Regional Medical Center of Family Health in Dnipro*, doctors work with such children every day – those born prematurely, with critically low weight, or in need of special medical supervision from the very first moments of life. For these babies, care and medical expertise alone are not enough. It is crucial to have equipment that allows continuous monitoring of vital signs and helps detect even the smallest changes in time.

One of these essential devices is a pulse oximeter. This medical equipment continuously measures blood oxygen saturation and heart rate. For premature infants, these indicators are critical, as they are often the first to signal a deterioration in condition, breathing problems, cardiac issues, or overall instability. If these changes are not detected in time, the consequences can be severe. That is why pulse oximeters in neonatal care units are not optional or “comfort” devices – they are a fundamental tool without which safe and high-quality monitoring is impossible.

For doctors, a pulse oximeter provides the ability to see changes in a baby’s condition not when they have already become critical, but much earlier. It allows them to respond quickly, adjust treatment, support breathing, prevent complications, and give the child the most valuable thing — time. In the care of premature babies, time often makes all the difference.

Today, the unit needs three modern Rad-97 pulse oximeters to ensure accurate and continuous monitoring of the smallest patients. This equipment will help medical teams better track each child’s condition, respond promptly to dangerous changes, and create safer conditions for nurturing newborns during the most critical period of their lives.

This project is about very tangible support for very small patients. It is about equipment that works quietly every day, without drawing attention, yet makes it possible for doctors to detect danger in time and act. It is about giving a chance to children who, from the very beginning of their lives, need special care.

Support the fundraising campaign for pulse oximeters for the hospital in Dnipro. Let’s help doctors have everything they need to save the lives of those who came into this world too early.
