At birth, through an emergency cesarean section, Oleksiy faced severe challenges: hypoxia and asphyxia. Later, he also developed bilateral pneumonia. He spent the first three weeks of his life in intensive care and was able to return home only after a month and a half. At nine months, he had his first epileptic seizure, after which all previously acquired skills were lost.
Shortly after, doctors diagnosed Oleksiy with a number of serious conditions resulting from damage to the nervous system during birth. The most severe of these is cerebral palsy.
Despite all these difficulties, Oleksiy is a very cheerful and lively boy. He loves interacting with other children, swinging on swings, listening to stories, and watching educational cartoons.
Daily work with his mother and sessions at rehabilitation centers are showing results: Oleksiy is almost able to use a spoon, gets on his hands and knees, and is trying to stand. The most important achievement this year is his first word – "Mama." A few years ago, this would have seemed almost impossible, as constant seizures and pain wiped out all efforts.
Oleksiy is now 10 years old – a challenging age due to hormonal changes and rapid growth, so he especially needs regular and comprehensive rehabilitation to maintain his progress and gain new skills. Please support Oleksiy in his efforts to move forward, explore new horizons, and take small but incredibly important steps toward a full and independent life.
