Nastia is a sociable, intelligent, and quick-witted child. She loves to play, easily gets along with anyone, and has a very strange dream: to go to kindergarten like all her peers.
Anastasia was born healthy and developed normally for her age, without any abnormalities. Her parents and older brother couldn't get enough of their little princess. But then, two months before her second birthday, the child suddenly started drinking a lot, losing weight, and losing her appetite. The little girl was admitted to the hospital with COVID-19, where she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
Even though it's been almost four years, her mom still remembers the moment when a group of doctors came into the room and said, “Your child has type 1 diabetes, insulin-dependent.” Her mother didn't take it seriously at first and was sure that the doctors had made a mistake, because her daughter was still so young, and this was a disease of adults. But reality prevailed: the pain and horror of the family gradually subsided. Awareness and understanding came. Over time, they learned to live with it: counting carbohydrates, injecting insulin, taking breaks... No matter how difficult it was, their daughter and her happiness were worth any fatigue, physical or emotional.
Even a common virus now completely throws Anastasia off track: her sugar levels become uncontrollable, she needs to measure her glucose much more often and take extra insulin shots. It is also difficult, for example, when a child plays with other children and wants to be like everyone else – eating whatever she wants, whenever she wants. It is not easy to explain to a five-year-old child that she cannot do what everyone else does, that she needs an injection before every meal.
But the family does not give up on their efforts and belief that their beloved Nastia will have the same bright, colorful childhood as her peers. Become their support on this journey, help them purchase continuous glucose monitoring sensors!
