Make Danylo's path easier

The greatest pain for parents is watching their child suddenly lose all the skills. Toddler learns to hold a spoon, assembles his first pyramid, and takes his first steps. And then everything changes instantly: he is admitted to intensive care with a terrible diagnosis, and doctors are powerless to offer any prognosis.

Danylo from Kryvyi Rih suffers from a severe central nervous system disorder, atonic-ataxic syndrome, epilepsy, and severe mental retardation. But behind these diagnoses lies the life of an eighteen-year-old boy who requires daily care of his family.

Danylo was born at 38 weeks of gestation, weighing 3,900 grams. He grew and developed, bringing joy to his mother and father. But at age two, he was rushed to intensive care with a high fever. Doctors performed two spinal taps, but found no specific infections. Atonic-ataxic syndrome, a result of inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system, was diagnosed. Danylo lost sight almost completely, stopped speaking, and developed a fear of loud sounds.

It was later discovered that he had congenital hip dysplasia. Convulsions led to joint dislocations, leading Danylo to undergo four orthopedic surgeries in 2015 and 2016.

In September 2024, the convulsions returned. The attacks begin in the morning: his body begins shaking, and tears of pain roll down his cheeks. He is currently taking Depakine and Levetiracetam. The anticonvulsants caused muscle weakness (before they were taken, he walked with assistance), and the full-scale war deprived him of the opportunity to undergo rehabilitation – the center in Kryvyi Rih closed. Danylo now uses a wheelchair.

Dania sees only blurred silhouettes, has limited understanding of spoken language, does not speak, does not eat independently, and uses diapers.

However, at 18, the medical and social commission assigned Danylo a disability category B instead of category A, stating that he did not require rehabilitation or apply to the social service for assistance. His mother officially appealed this decision, but the family has not received disability payments for several months.
