Let's get Andriy back to a healthy life!

At the time of birth, Andriiko was completely healthy, but on the 25th day of his life he ended up in intensive care due to serious diagnoses – “pneumonia” and “sepsis”. Later, he developed meningitis – inflammation of the brain membranes. After long-term treatment, the disease was overcome, but serious consequences remained: hydrocephalus, spastic left-sided hemiparesis, and symptomatic epilepsy. 

To overcome hydrocephalus, doctors installed a cerebrospinal fluid shunt system in Andriy, which drains excess cerebrospinal fluid from the ventricles of the brain into the abdominal cavity. At that time, we helped purchase a shunt. However, almost three years later, the system failed, damaging the boy’s intestines. Andriiko underwent surgery, after which he developed postoperative peritonitis, an inflammation of the abdominal cavity. After prolonged treatment, he was installed with a new cerebrospinal fluid shunt system, which we also helped to purchase.

At the end of December, Andriiko was hospitalized again due to severe abdominal pain and high fever. He was again diagnosed with peritonitis and is currently undergoing treatment. After his condition stabilizes, the CSF shunt system will need to be replaced.

Andriiko's family are internally displaced persons from Vasylivka district who have been living in Zaporizhzhia since July 2023. Due to difficult financial conditions, they are unable to purchase the liquor shunt system on their own, which will be needed in the coming days. We have already received the shunt and agreed with the supplier to defer payment for a month.
