"Cool things" for Lera

Every morning Lera asks her mother: "When will they put on those "cool things" in which I hear and understand so well again?" "Cool Things" are new hearing aids that the girl was put on during the examination. They are more sensitive than those Lera is wearing now.

The first signs of the disease appeared in a year after birth. Parents began to notice that Lera does not speak. It happens, each child has its own pace of development, the doctors said. And when Lera began to react only to loud sounds, doubts crept in. Examination of the girl revealed hearing loss of the 2-3 degree.

Hearing aids became Lera's assistants at the age of two and a half. At first it was difficult for the girl to get used to a foreign object in her ears. But later she realized that without them the world is perceived differently. It’s just silent. In an ordinary kindergarten, Lera learned to communicate with children, and a speech therapist and a speech pathologist helped her with this. The girl knows how to talk, and this is a great achievement!

For the sake of the child's health, the family moved to Zaporizhia: in the native village of Verbovoe, there are no conditions for teaching children with hearing impairments. This year Lera successfully completed the first grade of the School "Dzherelo". The girl draws beautifully and sculpts from plasticine, loves to bake goodies with her grandmother.

An examination in June showed a decrease in hearing. Old hearing aids need to be replaced urgently with more sensitive ones. The cost of two new ones is about 60,000 UAH. This is a fantastic amount for Lera's family. And without the devices, the girl will experience a change in her voice and distortion of speech, up to and including its complete loss.
