Shelter for mothers with children

"Right now, there are 4 women and 8 children in need of shelter among the families we support. One of them is Olena, a mother of many children, who is raising 4 children on her own. The woman moved from the occupied territory to Sievierodonetsk, where she rents a room in a dormitory. In May this year, she gave birth to twins. The children needed additional medical care. The father of the children does not take part in the upbringing. The room where Olena lives with her children is up for sale, so they may find themselves homeless tomorrow”, said Serhii Lukashov, National Director of SOS Children's Villages Ukraine.

SOS Children's Villages Ukraine creates Shelter for mothers with children in Sievierodonetsk. The shelter is starting operation in September 2021. Here, women with children from all corners of Luhansk region without connection to their registration, will be able to recieve safe accomodation and timely support. The shelter will help children stay with their moms, and support families in the moment of crisis. Up to 100 people will be able to receive assistance each year, depending on personal situations. Mothers and children will be able to stay here 24/7 for up to six months, receive material and psychological support and even learn new professional skills.

Creation of a shelter becomes our organisation's initiative as we saw great need in it. Up to this moment, SOS Children's Villages Ukraine managed to win 2 grants, thanks to which a flat was purchased, now premises are being renovated and soon will be equipped with furniture, household appliances, accessories and household items, in addition, the whole work of shelter covered till the end of 2021 and even some expenditures for 2022. However, majority of costs for 2022 are still not covered/
