Together we will save Zhenya's life!

UPD 01.03.21 from CF "Heart in the Palm": Recently, Evgen Bystritskyi, whom we purchased a mechanical heart within the framework of this project, has undergone positive and stable changes in health: his heart started to work better, the ejection fraction increased to 40. This means that now the guy only needs medication supportive therapy. Evgen's condition is under constant control of Kyiv and Kharkiv doctors, every quarter the guy comes to the Kyiv Heart Institute for diagnostics. If Evgen's heart condition worsens, he will undergo donor heart transplantation at the State Institution Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

All things considered, the doctors made the decision to use this mechanical heart to save another life. That is why on January 26, 2021, at the State Institution "Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine", doctors performed implantation of a mechanical heart to Mykola Medvedev, 1956, a pensioner from the Shostka city (Sumy region). The man simply could not wait for a donor heart transplant due to the presence of a giant aneurysm in the apex of the left ventricle of the heart. Hopelessness is when you fight for every breath of air from birth, and the intensive care wards change to ordinary ones, and so on for 16 years now. Hopelessness is when a loving mother who has already lost one child and a husband is told that her son has dilated cardiomyopathy and he can survive only by receiving a donor's heart... Unfortunately, everything written above is not just hypothetical thoughts, but the realities of life of a stunningly inquisitive, kind and incredibly cheerful young man named Evgenii Bystrytskyi, who, despite the whirlpool of hopelessness in his life, measures it himself only with moments of happiness. 

Zhenia’s life began to change rapidly already on the third day after birth when doctors heard noises in the little heart of the boy. After that, he was taken to the Kharkov Regional Children's Clinical Hospital No. 1 by an ambulance. After a month spent with his mother in the hospital, the baby was diagnosed with congenital heart disease and a secondary atrial septal defect. The boy was registered with a cardiologist and was constantly observed for 7 years. When the boy turned 7, his father died, who worked almost 24 hours a day and took on any work in order to only have the financial ability to maintain the health of his beloved son. This is a real shock for little Zhenia! He develops pneumonia and his congenital heart disease increases by 2 times. In June 2011, the boy undergoes heart surgery to correct a secondary atrial septal defect. Six months later, Zhenia is diagnosed with mitral valve insufficiency.

Since January 2019, the maelstrom of inexorable events began to spin with frantic force. First, Zhenia fell ill with a sore throat, which again struck a weak heart. By the end of April, Zhenia had various symptoms; nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, weakness, and low blood pressure. With a sharp increase in symptoms, he was taken to Kharkiv Regional Children's Clinical Hospital No.1. Nothing special was discovered by her mother, remembering her husband’s problems (who developed dilated cardiomyopathy and died of constant physical exertion), they go with Zhenia to the Kharkiv children's cardiology hospital. While waiting for the reception, the boy's lips turned blue, he suddenly threw himself into a sweat and he began to lose consciousness. He was urgently hospitalized in intensive care. That was in May 2019. Zhenya stayed in the hospital for a month and was sent to Kyiv to clarify the diagnosis. In October 2019, Zhenia was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy.

Upon admission to the Institute of the Heart, Zhenia's condition was quite serious, frequent fainting, dizziness, weakness, and bluish lips. At the moment, the boy is on drug therapy in the department of myocardial pathology and transplantation of human organs and tissues of the Institute of the Heart and feels rather well. To save Zhenia's life, a heart transplant is needed. But he does not have time to wait! To increase his chances of life and still wait for the donor organ, doctors at the Heart Institute are now advising to establish a mechanical heart. Its price is more than 5 000 000 UAH!

On the UBB website, we plan to collect part of the necessary amount for the purchase of a mechanical heart – UAH 3,000,000.

Funds must be collected as quickly as possible, and as soon as the amount is collected, we can buy a mechanical heart for Eugene. Now the boy's fraction is decreasing, his condition can worsen very quickly. We cannot lose time, we need to be on time while Zhenia's condition is stable.

Also, Zhenia's mother appealed to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine with a request to finance a donor heart transplant operation abroad. Now the Ministry of Health’s Commission has decided to take Evgenii Bystrytskyi to register patients who need treatment abroad and decided to send them abroad for treatment in order of priority and if funds are available on the account of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for the indicated purpose (see letter from the Ministry of Health of 11.02.2020 in "Documentation").

"Happiness is when after another sudden loss of consciousness you come to your senses and realize that you are alive... Still alive! You see with your eyes mom and hug the little sister," says Zhenia. Please, let us help this invincible optimist feel what life is outside of intensive care and hospital wards! Let's give him a chance to become truly happy! Get a chance at the life he loves so much!
