The monitoring of the vital functions of the organism is important during the treatment and nursering of such babies. Special devices called "Pulseoximeters" make it possible. The necessary elements to the device are the individual sensors and the "patient cable" which connects the patient with the device. The "patient cable" require the regular substitution, as well as the sensor itself.

Effective control of the heart rate and the breathing of a child weighing 500-1500 reduces the risk of respiratory disorders and sudden death. The aim of the project to provide the necessary number of patient cables for the "early birds" in the Intensive nursing of deeply premature infants of NSCH "OKHMATDYT".

Supporting the breath of premature born babies with the immature lungs is an important and difficult task. It is also important that premature born babies often have the breath-holding (apnea). These can be physiological, as a result of immaturity, and pathological. This state can lead to sudden death, but with the help of the signal of pulseoximeter the breath-holding can be examined right away and the necessary measures can be taken for the child to breathe again. Thus, when a child can not breathe on its own, the device is helping with that. Also, for keeping the necessary pressure rate in the air ways and lungs, the special compressor is necessary, it provides the safe pressure rate of the breathing gas.

The pulseoximeter, the heartbeat sensor and the patient cable together as a complex show the rate of the child's heartbeat. Premature born babies often experience arrhythmias (disruptions of the heart), which are difficult to diagnose without monitoring. So it is very difficult to nurse the premature born child without monitoring the crucial indicators such as blood oxygen saturation and heart rate.

Every year the department of intensive care of premature born children of NSCH "OKHMATDYT" treats up to 300 deeply premature born babies with the weight at birth from 500 grams to 2500 grams.
